Fifteen Russell-Cooke lawyers featured in Best Lawyers UK 2025

Russell-Cooke has seen 15 lawyers listed in this year’s Best Lawyers UK report, many of whom have been recognised previously.

Partners Jae Carwardine (criminal and financial crime), Janice Gardner (personal injury and medical negligence) Jason Hunter (property litigation), Fiona Read (family and children), Andrew Studd (charity law and not for profit), Sarah Towler (personal injury and medical negligence) and Edward Wanambwa (immigration law) are named, with Pippa Garland (charity law and not for profit) and Kate Hamilton (family and children) ranked for the first time. 

Consultants Samantha Little (family and children), Peter Cadman (regulation and public law), Richard Frimston (private client), James Sinclair Taylor (charity law and not for profit) and Camilla Thornton (family and children) are recognised again with Anita Symington, who joined Russell-Cooke in 2023 to head up the firm’s rural and agribusiness team, also ranked.

Listed partners

Jae is a partner and head of the fraud and criminal litigation team, with over 20 years’ experience and with a proven track record in dealing with high-profile cases. She has particular expertise in representing professionals who find themselves accused of criminal matters with potentially career-threatening implications or intrusive media interest.

Janice is a partner in the personal injury and medical negligence team. She has a varied caseload of both clinical negligence and personal injury cases, specialising in infection, spinal injuries and brain injuries. She brings over 30 years’ experience. 

Pippa is a partner in the charity law and not for profit team. She advises charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations on all aspects of charity law, and has particular expertise in philanthropy, where she advises both individuals and businesses on their giving.

Kate is a partner in the family and children team. She has considerable expertise in acting for barristers, solicitors and clients in the financial sector. Much of the work she does involves complex financial structures and foreign jurisdictions with off-shore assets and/or international lifestyles. She has a specialist niche practice in advising on disputes between property owners, as well as undertakes complex children work such as leave to remove application.  

Jason is a partner and head of the property and housing litigation team, specialising in the avoidance or resolution of property disputes (using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) or litigation). He advises on all areas of property litigation, including landlord and tenant law (residential, mixed use and commercial) and property disputes about boundaries, party walls, restrictive covenants, trespass, rights of way, and rights of light. Jason is retiring from legal practice on 30 June.

Fiona is a partner in the family and children team in Putney. She has extensive experience in all aspects of family law. Fiona frequently handles cases with an international element and which often involve high value financial settlements in divorce, disputed arrangements with children (including re-location to other countries) pre and post-nuptial agreements and co-habitation and property disputes. She is also noted for her expertise in matrimonial finance work.

Andrew is a partner in the charity and social business team. He advises charities, social enterprises, trade associations and other membership and not-for-profit organisations on a wide range of charity and company law issues and commercial matters.

Sarah is a partner in the personal injury and clinical negligence team. She advises clients on a wide range of claims, including cases involving misdiagnosis of symptoms, negligent operations, road traffic accidents, work accidents and tripping accidents. Sarah also represents bereaved families at inquests involving deaths in hospital and the workplace, road traffic accidents and suicides.

Ed Wanambwa is a partner in and head of the immigration law team. He helps a wide range of companies and professional service firms, both in the UK and overseas, to achieve their objectives in the UK immigration law context. Ed has considerable experience of advising national, multi-national and publicly listed companies - across a wide range of industry sectors - on the full spectrum of UK immigration law as it relates to their businesses and employees.
