The Government has recommitted to scrapping section 106 and replacing it with a new infrastructure levy. More details on the long-awaited planning reforms will be revealed in the Queen’s speech on May 10.
In a response to a House of Lords built environment committee, the Government said it is “exploring the introduction of a new infrastructure levy, which will replace section 106 planning obligations and the community
infrastructure levy (CIL)”.
The Government has said it wants the new levy to be payable in all but the most exceptional circumstances. Partner Alex Ground explains why this could make some sites unenviable to developers, as some sites will be costlier than others.
