Russell-Cooke has announced that the partnership has re-elected Jonathan Thornton as the firm’s Deputy Senior Partner, and James Carroll as the firm’s Managing Partner.

The appointments are for a three-year term, with effect from 1 February 2024.

Practising at the firm since qualifying in 1988, Jonathan Thornton has been with Russell-Cooke for more than 35 years. He heads the firm’s corporate and commercial practice and previously served as Managing Partner between 2015 and 2021, before being elected to his first term as Deputy Senior partner.

Family partner James Carroll has also been re-elected for a second term as Managing Partner. An Accredited Family Mediator and a Collaborative Family Lawyer, James specialises in the financial and other consequences of relationship formation or breakdown. He is also a member of the firm’s fast-growing multi-disciplinary Family Office group. For the past three years he has held the position of Joint Managing Partner with Alison Regan, who did not stand for re-election in 2024 and continues to focus on leading the firm’s trust, will and estate disputes team.

Jonathan and James will continue to work closely with Russell-Cooke’s wider management board which has recently undergone reorganisation reflecting the firm’s growth in recent years and to support the delivery of its 2025 strategy. This has included corporate specialist Emma Shipp taking the role of Director of Client Services and the appointment in 2023 of Simon Moffat as Director of Marketing and Business Development. Emma and Simon work alongside Anu Kapila, Director of People, Risk and Standards and Sam Allen, Director of Finance, Technology and Facilities, to manage the operational side of the business.

In its last financial year, the firm saw revenues rise 20% to £46.4m.

Jonathan and James have shown themselves to be leaders of integrity, commitment and vision, and since their respective appointments in 2021 we have continued to take significant steps forward as a firm as we implement our strategy. Having worked closely with Jonathan and James for many years I know the abilities they will continue to bring to bear in support of the firm’s continued growth and success and I congratulate them on their re-election. I’d also like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to Alison Regan for her drive and commitment over the past three years.”
