Russell-Cooke partner Andrew Godfrey and senior associate / avocat Patrick Delas will be speaking at Lexunion's XIX Congress this week. Andrew and Patrick will be discussing the interaction between the UK legal and tax systems and other civil law jurisdictions. In particular, the talk will look at the interaction between civil law concept usufruit and other European countries, as well as its interaction with UK law.
Usufruit is a standard form of estate planning in civil law jurisdictions, but is not recognised here in the UK. This can set up many complicated issues for those from civil law countries moving to the UK or having UK connections.
The Congress will take place at the Hotel Ernst Excelsior in Köln from 15 to 18 September 2022.
Andrew is a partner in the private client group. He is recognised for his advice on cross-border private client matters, and advises on cross-border estate administration, cross-border estate planning, trusts and international tax.
Patrick is a solicitor (England & Wales) and Avocat au Barreau de Paris. He specialises in private international law, advising on French and cross-border tax issues.
