Legal director Alix Rejman appeared as a guest panellist on an AbilityNet webinar on how businesses can prepare for the European Accessibility Act (EAA). This is the first of a three-part series.

The discussion focussed on digital accessibility and the implications of EAA for businesses, as well as compliance requirements. Alix highlights its role in user experience, inclusivity and business benefits. She also stressed the impact of inaccessibility services on users and practical steps organisations can take to improve accessibility before the EAA deadline.

One of the nuances of the EAA is that it can be implemented in each Member State in a different way. Some countries may have more onerous requirements than others [you should be mindful of] depending on the market you are selling to. The obligation is at Member-State level. What each member state will have to have in place are effective means for consumers to bring complaints if they think there are products or services not meeting requirements. Also, a complaint mechanism for interested bodies, charities, legitimate bodies representing individuals who are affected and have accessibility needs.
