“It’s time to take a look at Russell-Cooke”: Chambers Student training contract review 2025
Russell-Cooke has received its annual write-up in the Chambers Student’s ‘True Picture’ series which aims to give prospective training contract candidates the ‘good, bad and in-between’ on life at their law firm of choice.
The review, based on anonymous interviews with current trainees, goes into detail on everything from the firm’s services and how its training contract is structured, through to trainee life and office culture.
Feedback centred on a number of key themes, with respondents commenting on the high level of supervision and support trainees receive. As such, they felt like they were being “treated as fee-earners from day one” and that “just because you’re a trainee, it doesn’t feel like you’re not heard.”
Work highlights included the “very mixed type of matters” found in the firm’s top-ranked real estate team and “never doing anything twice” in the family and children seat. Commenting on their time in private client, one respondent said they were “involved in just about every part of the process” on a matter and were “expected to be quite independent within a good support network.”
Others appreciate the work-life balance the firm can offer, with several participants commenting that they “never feel overworked” despite “people very much working their hours.” This was complemented by praise for the “healthy number of opportunities to socialise with colleagues through various clubs” as well as wine-tasting opportunities thanks to the “wine vault in the cellar of the Putney office.”
The firm’s ‘conscience’ is also pinpointed as a plus, with one interviewee commenting “I knew I wanted to be at a firm that took legal aid and human rights seriously.”
Whatever your interest, if seats were meals, Russell-Cooke has a whole recipe book to sink your teeth into.
We are delighted to hear the firm described so positively by our current trainees. Our training contract not only offers a breadth of legal experience rarely found elsewhere, but the opportunity to handle high quality work and take responsibility from the outset. We pride ourselves on our supportive and collaborative culture, and what we see as a more thoughtful approach to law, so it is fantastic to see this reflected in this year’s True Picture.
