Andrew Godfrey reappointed as Chair of STEP Cross-Border Estates Global Special Interest Group Steering Committee
Andrew Godfrey, partner in the private client group, has been reappointed as Chair of the STEP Cross-Border Estates Global Special Interest Group (SIG) Steering Committee, with this latest term having commenced 1 January 2022.
The Cross-Border Estates Global SIG addresses estate planning and the administration of estates and successions across international borders. The group focuses on reconciling divergent inheritance and tax rules between civil code jurisdictions, common law jurisdictions, and other systems of law, such as Sharia. The group aims to nurture expertise, promote best practice and champion the Cross-Border Estates specialist area.
STEP is the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners and is a global professional body comprising lawyers, accountants, trustees and other practitioners that assist families with their estate planning.
Andrew commented “I am honoured to have been voted as Chair of the STEP CBEG for another term. This is my fifth year on the committee and it continues to be a fascinating forum for the sharing of ideas and expertise. I very much look forward to continuing my work with the group in 2022.”
Andrew has also contributed to the latest edition of “EU Cross-Border Succession Law,” published by Elgar and due for publication in June 2022. The book offers a practical analysis of how cross-border successions should be treated, including examination of which courts may establish jurisdiction over succession disputes and which law governs such disputes. Updates on publication and availability are available here.
He advises families, individuals, and trustees on all aspects of private client law, with a particular focus on cross-border matters and related succession and tax advice.
