Private client team news and updates—April 2024
Key changes in private client law – then and now
“Turn around and the time has flown, some things stay the same, though the future remains unknown”. Those who are Disney fans or have young children in the family may recognise these words from the film Frozen 2.
Over the past ten years or so there have been some significant changes to the private client landscape including amendments to tax allowances, the effects of Brexit and updates to trust reporting requirements to name a few.
These changes may not have not seemed particularly substantial, especially given previous promises of reforms to inheritance tax and probate fees, but nonetheless have implications for individuals and families.
That said, there are certainly changes on the horizon which are more likely to need consideration by private clients and their lawyers alike. Changes to the creation of lasting powers of attorney, changes to capital gains tax rates and allowances, and a potential change in Government are all going to have an effect on us all, but also on the legal advice we offer.
We cannot be certain of what the future may bring, but we can help put you in the best position to plan for all sorts of eventualities, in the best interests of you and your family.
