Partner Shabnam Ali-Khan has contributed an article to IFA Magazine which outlines the key objectives contained in the Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Bill announced earlier this year and advises leaseholders on how best to respond.

She explores which areas the Bill covers and what remains to be addressed, as well as highlights its key features, which include a commitment to strengthen leaseholders’ rights, reinvigorate the commonhold tenure and regulate ground rents for existing leaseholders. She also notes the Bill’s aim to strengthen the rights of freehold homeowners on private or mixed-tenure residential estates, and to remove the threat of forfeiture as a means of ensuring compliance with a lease agreement.

I’d recommend that leaseholders weigh up their options carefully and consider the commercial picture … seek valuation advice which takes into account the various scenarios, and try to keep up to date with change and potential change as much as possible.
